Happy Friday.

I'm exhausted and don't have much to say. This week, I've been using Tumblr as a way to decompress after each long day. I've found that scrolling through endless photos is somehow relaxing. And, I thought I'd share a few photos from my (current) favorite Tumblr blog. I think I like it because it just feels like fall (and I'm really missing that right now.)

Have a fabulous weekend, k?

Last night, I was telling Zach that I (again) hate all my clothes. Lately, getting dressed has been so difficult. I've had to work really hard to create outfits that I actually like. And our poor bedroom is in a constant state of dishevel from my morning clothing tantrums.

So, it's always nice to add easy pieces to my closet. You know the ones I mean: they can be thrown on at any time and you always know that you'll look good and feel comfortable. When I saw Bri wearing this striped tunic, I knew I'd found a winner (and literally, walked straight into Anthropologie to buy it 30 minutes later.)

It's still a little too hot to wear it here in LA (unless you're in a place with excellent air conditioning) but I'm really, really, really looking forward to fall... when I can start wearing it every day. That's OK, right?

Saturday mornings are sacred in the Piepmeyer household. Our favorites are spent lounging, listening to records, not cleaning, and eating poached eggs with tomatoes.

This last weekend, I was feeling particularly sentimental about our ritual (because I know we won't be in this season, or apartment, forever.) I decided to take a few photos of my favorite moments so that whenever we move on, I can remember the little things about our life here. Like: how we catch up on all our TV shows in bed, or how there's constantly a pile of shoes on our bedroom floor, or how pretty the light in our shower is (despite how it never looks clean - no matter how hard I scrub), or how our towels hang haphazardly from the rack that Zach hung when we moved in.

These pictures show just how hard it is for me to keep our house clean on the weekends. But, I'm learning that loveliness can be found in the messes we make. Don't you think?

This week, I've found myself missing Oregon. When I lived there, the end of September was always my favorite time of the year. The leaves are just starting to change colors, the air gets crisp and cool, it hasn't started raining (yet), and every morning is foggy. Man, what is it about the fog? It's so ethereal and dreamy and cozy...

Great, now I want to cuddle up in a sweater and drink some tea. Except, it's supposed to be a whopping 90 degrees in LA today. (When will this madness end??)

Well anyway, here are a few links to kick start your weekend, whether you're enjoying the cooler autumn weather or still sweltering like me:

Cat love + synthesizers = perfection. (I may or may not have this whole song memorized...)

Have you entered's contest to win a new metallic heart clutch? I've seen these firsthand, and they're amazing.

The two books I finished this week (here and here.) Both were really sad. But good.

Some comedy for everyone who's so sick of ridiculous political discussions on Facebook.

Have you seen Emerson Fry's new fall line? I. WANT. EVERYTHING.

Can Amy Poehler be any more amazing? (Although I'm still crying about her breakup with Will.)

Sorry... just one more.

By the way, have you seen my post on the blog today?

Outfit details: neon bow bobbi and contrast headwrap, urban outfitters shirt, old navy shorts (now on sale!)

Oh, and that book I'm reading? The Perks of Being A Wallflower.

Hey California, despite all your faults you've still got some good stuff goin' for ya. Your weather is incredible, your culture is diverse and exciting, and your beaches and mountains are pretty fun too. But, let's not forget the most important thing: you make a mean avocado.

Since I moved to your state, I've learned that avocados taste good on everything. I've learned that it's completely acceptable to sit on a kitchen counter and eat a whole one raw... with just a spoon and some salt.

But lately I've discovered that avocados taste even better on sourdough toast... especially when they're mashed up with a little lemon and olive oil, then sprinkled with salt and red pepper flakes.

It's like, the perfect breakfast (and pairs nicely with a big ol' glass of juice.)

So, thanks California. One day when I move away, I'll fit nicely into that cliche group of people who keep talking about their younger years in Los Angeles... and those avocados.

The trend I'm most looking forward to rockin this fall? Socks, socks and more socks. Socks with heels, socks with sandals, socks with wedges, socks with cropped pants. Oh, we're not just talking about boring white or beige socks. No, no. These socks have personality. Gimme some with stripes, polka dots, ruffles or lace please.

Now, I know H&M has some fun socks... but have you seen them anywhere else? I need to stock up my collection.

Living in LA is weird. About this time every year, all of my northern friends start talking about wearing boots and drinking apple cider and seeing their breath. And I... am wishing clothes were optional (because it's just too dang hot to wear anything, much less a sweater.)

At this point, we've been suffering through almost 4 months of intense heat. It's grueling. Oh, and here's a fun fact: I'm constantly sweating. Everyday. All the time. (Can you tell I'm at my breaking point? I'm getting super whiney.) So, I'm really, really, really, really hoping that Autumn shows her pretty face around here soon. Not because I want a pumpkin spice latte, but because I need a break.

In other news, here's what's had my attention this week:

Ran into Alison Studol yesterday afternoon at Pressed Juicery. Now I'm super stoked for her new album.

I'm having AP English flashbacks. And I like it.

Can you say cuteness overload?

Need to spice up you laptop background? I've got just the thing.

I hope I age this beautifully.

Super excited to check out this dinner spot on Saturday night.

Happy weekend! xoxo

For the past month, I've been working at - an accessories company based here in LA. I've been helping out with all of their social media (Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram...) and writing for their blog. Although I've always liked fashion, I've never actually worked in the industry. So this last month has been exciting, challenging, eye-opening, stretching, and... amazing. (It probably helps that I'm working with some pretty inspiring people.)

Today, is launching a new "black label" line. These are all one-of-a-kind pieces that are hand-made in our studio. They're stunning... and you should probably check out the blog post I wrote about it here. :)

Here's a fact: I've struggled with bad skin since puberty. Besides accutane (the mother of all acne drugs), I've also tried every pill, cream and ointment invented by dermatologists. Trust me, it ain't always pretty, folks.

I hate, hate, hate putting all these chemicals into or onto my body, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of other options. Well, until I read this article. A normal gal with bad skin (not a scientist or doctor, for the record) tried to clear up her face by only using things she could also eat (like honey, olive oil, coffee grounds, egg whites, vodka, etc.)... and it's working for her.

So, I'm considering doing the same. Maybe for a week? Or a month? Just to see if it helps at all. But, what do you think? Am I completely crazy? Or, should I go for it? Thoughts appreciated. :)

My "ready-to-be-grandparents" mom and dad were in town this weekend, and my mom starting asking me how I was planning to decorate my future kids' rooms. Now, let the record show that Zach and I are nowhere near ready to start a family (we're hoping my parents have to wait a few more years before that dream comes true.) But, her questions did make me start to think.

Over the last few months, I've noticed my decorating style has been changing (again.) I'm really drawn to simple and minimalistic looks. And, if I were to decorate a kid's room tomorrow, I would probably stick with that idea: lots of white with small pops of color, clean lines, fun textures, and whimsical details. (Jennifer Hagler's "kids" Pinterest board is a treasure trove of inspiration.)

What about you? Do you ever think about how you'd decorate your future kids' (or redecorate your current kids') rooms?

I've found that I can have the same haircut for about a year. After a year, I start itching for a new look. Since it's been a whole 12 months since I hacked off my hair into a pixie cut (can you believe it?) I've decided it's time for a change. And, I'm leaning towards just embracing my crazy, frizzy curls and letting things go wild for a while.

That means it's time to face the awkwardness of in-between hair (ugh, it's the worst!) until my locks grow out a little more. But once they do, I'm hoping I can pull off the look of the girl up there on the top left. Perfection.

via my "wishlist" pinterest board

Six years ago this week, I piled all my hot pink belongings into my little red Jetta and took off for sunny Southern California. At the time, I expected that I'd stay in Los Angeles for two years tops. And yet here I am six years later: writing about how I'm still here. Life is funny sometimes.

In the past 6 years, I:

Lived with 16 different roommates
Met, chased, and caught my husband
Had 6 different jobs (ranging from receptionist to Account Executive)
Finished my college degree... and then paid off that college degree
Carved my first pumpkin
Drank my first beer
Moved 6 times
Gained 20 pounds (hello, ice cream) then lost 20 pounds
Ate my first REAL taco
Stopped eating shrimp and going to Sea World
Finally got a Facebook account
Started this blog
Have been through more earthquakes than I can count
Re-defined my belief system

The entire time, I've had a love/hate relationship with this city. On one hand it's freakishly hot, run down, and filled with lots of vapid people. On the other hand it's diverse, trendsetting, and colorful. There's a crazy creative energy here that just makes life... exciting.

I don't think we'll be in LA forever (I still have dreams of a house with a big garden and chicken coup,) but while we're still here I've been finding myself getting sentimental. I really grew up and found myself in this city. And no matter where Zach and I go next in our adventure, LA will always have a special place in my heart.

What's New...

Monday, September 3, 2012

Hello, hello. I hope you had a lovely labor day weekend. Did you get out of the house and do anything fun?

Our weekend was incredibly full. We picnicked at the Hollywood Bowl, backpacked overnight in the San Bernardino mountains, watched a bunch of movies, and barbecued with Zach's sister and her husband (and their puppy Enzo.)

I'm hoping to be a better blogger this week. I know I keep making excuses for my lack of new content, but with two jobs I'm realizing it's hard to balance out my time. But, that's life I guess.

Until next time, xoxo.
