I've decided that my current hairstyle looks like a mullet. Or, like Frodo Baggins's. Either way, I'm not sure it's flattering.
ANYWAY... Happy Fourth of July!
When I was growing up, Independence Day was always my favorite holiday. I have fond memories of climbing onto roofs to watch fireworks, having sticky barbeque fingers, terrorizing the neighborhood with my friends, and competing in marathon Capture the Flag competitions. In my mind, every quintessential summer memory is wrapped into one day: The Fourth of July. It's what Christmas is to winter.
Now that I'm a grown up (according to this article,) the holiday doesn't quite have the same sparkle. And, it feels harder and harder to gather our close friends and family around to celebrate.
But, no matter what, this holiday will always (always) hold a special place in my heart. And each year no matter where I am, I will continue searching for the best firework show: guaranteed. (Plus, I hear holidays are super-fun when you have kids. So, we've got that to look forward to!)
Sticking to my theme for July, today I'll be partying in thrifted clothes. Besides the earrings and shoes (purchases from last summer,) this outfit cost $6. The shirt was $4, the belt was $2, and the skirt was free (at a clothing swap.)
I'm pretty impressed with my newly acquired bargain hunting skills.
And with that, I'm wishing you a very sparkly day! May you be surrounded by lots of love... and lots of apple pie... and lots of fireworks... and lots of happy children. And, may you spend just a few moments saying "Thank You" for the men and women who sacrificed their lives so we could be free. Despite this country's problems, we have much to be thankful for. :)
